TIGER/LineŽ is the primary GIS data source for US streets,
addressing and many other data items, and forms the basis of many
secondary products produced by GIS Companies. Every few years, the United States
Bureau of the Census updates and re-issues the TIGER/Line data set complete
with revisions from Census Field Offices nationwide.
The 2003 TIGER/Line files include files for all counties and
statistically equivalent entities in the United States as well as
files for Puerto Rico and the Island Areas. The 2003 TIGER/LineŽ
files are released by county or statistically equivalent entity
based on the boundaries in effect as of January 1, 2003 as
provided by the Census Bureau on April 7, 2004.
The files are the compressed line files from Census 2003 and are in
the original Census Bureau ASCII text format and the data are NOT
in the form of map images. To create maps with the TIGER/Line files,
you would typically use a Geographic Information System package or
other mapping software. Users are responsible for converting or
translating the files into a format used by their specific software
package.
For AGIS users, the Census 2003 are not in a form that is directly
readable by AGIS for Windows. Software is required to convert the
data into a form that is readable, such as mif/mid. Packages such as
FME can do this conversion at reasonably low cost.

Questions
How can you charge only $49 when the US Government charges more for the same data?
The Bureau of the Census works on cost recovery in providing this data to the public.
Our costs are lower than the US Government's costs. The US Government encourages resellers
such as ourselves to provide the data, which in turn encourages wider use. AGIS Software
does not have any special authority or endorsement from the US Government.
Why are you reselling Bureau of the Census data?
AGIS Software has been in the GIS and data business via the internet since 1997
and we have a large number of registered users throughout the world, but particularly
in the USA. Our customers have often requested street-level information for the US,
so this is one way that we can provide such data easily.
What are the shipping fees?
$5 for shipping anywhere in the world. Normal delivery time is about 10 working days.
Can I use this data in my own programs license-free?
Yes. The actual data is in the public domain so you may use it in any way you like.
It is completely royalty-free. You can copy this data set, resell it or
give it away, create commercial products based on it, whatever you like.
Does the registered trademark restrict my use of the TIGER/Line 2003 data?
No. You can use the data however you like.
The registered trademark has no effect on the public domain nature of the data.
TIGER and TIGER/Line are Registered Trademarks of the US Bureau of Census.
